Exclusive 2-Week Across India’s 33 Screens and Key Global Markets

After the posters and teaser of War 2 set social media abuzz and fueled massive excitement among fans, the makers have now taken a big step forward by locking an exclusive IMAX deal for the film. Sources confirm that all 33 IMAX screens operational in India will screen War 2 exclusively, giving the Hrithik Roshan and NTR Jr. starrer a massive edge when it comes to premium large-format audiences.

The move comes as no surprise considering the unprecedented box office performance of previous YRF spy universe entries like Pathaan and Tiger 3, which saw significant revenue contributions from IMAX screens. According to trade reports, no other film except for War 2 will see an IMAX release in India over the Independence Day weekend. By locking IMAX across India, YRF ensures that War 2 will capitalize on high ticket prices and the immersive experience audiences now expect for event films, especially in the action-thriller genre.

YRF Secures IMAX Showcasing for War 2

“In a strategy move, YRF has already secured an exclusive nationwide showcasing on the big screen format of IMAX, which means that no other film except for War 2 will get showcasing at the aforementioned properties in India. The film has secured a run on IMAX properties until the release of the next Conjuring film. Internationally too, most properties catering to the Indian diaspora are giving a preference to War 2 at IMAX properties,” revealed a source close to Pinkvilla.

The source further added that YRF has secured a deal of approx. 2 weeks in approx. 33 IMAX screens, which are touted to be the high-performing centres for film business.

IMAX Screens: The Golden Goose for Big-Budget Films

With approximately 33 IMAX theatres spread across major metros like Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai, India represents one of the fastest-growing markets for the format. Recent blockbusters have repeatedly demonstrated that IMAX screens outperform standard theatres on a per-screen average, often contributing 10-15% of a big film’s domestic gross from less than 1% of total screens. This makes IMAX a critical revenue driver for high-octane spectacles like War 2.

Globally, the film will also release in IMAX across significant territories where Indian films perform well, including North America, the Middle East, the UK, and parts of Southeast Asia, ensuring War 2 enjoys an event-like release befitting a film of its scale.

Directed by Ayan Mukerji, War 2 promises to take forward the adrenaline-pumping legacy of its predecessor, War (2019), which remains one of the highest-grossing Hindi action films of all time. Featuring a face-off between Hrithik Roshan and NTR Jr., and marking the Telugu superstar’s Bollywood debut, the film has already become one of the most eagerly awaited projects of 2025.
