Dear Ms.: A Revolution in Print Trailer

“We’re not just a magazine… we’re a whole social movement.” HBO debuted the trailer for a documentary event titled Dear Ms.: A Revolution in Print, taking a look back at the iconic, groundbreaking magazine known as Ms. This three-part doc film is being released by HBO streaming starting in July this summer. It recently premiered at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival this month. 3 filmmakers dive deep into the storied and complex legacy of Ms. magazine through the lens of some of its most iconic covers, featuring never-before-seen archival footage and engaging interviews. Ms. wasn’t just a magazine–it was a revolution. Told through the lens of three directors and the covers that made history. Part One – “A Magazine for all Women” – is directed by Salima Koroma. Part Two – “Ms.: A Portable Friend” – is directed by Alice Gu (director of The Donut King). Part Three – “No Comment” – is directed by Cecilia Aldarondo, which will examine “how the magazine had to navigate the many diverse factions within the women’s feminist movement itself.” This film looks great! Ms. magazine really was revolutionary and had a huge impact and it’s inspiring to reiterate that.

Ms. was an outlet to tackle taboo topics facing women & challenge the male-dominated media landscape by breaking barriers and amplifying female voices. Dear Ms. chronicles the groundbreaking articles that helped define & further the discourse, showcasing the bold cover stories that dared to put abortion, home life, workplace issues, and sexual politics front & center, bringing about new language in their dissection of the gender battleground. More than 50 years since its genesis, the magazine’s editors and contributors, including co-founders Gloria Steinem, Letty Cottin Pogrebin, Pat Carbine, and very first editor Suzanne Braun Levine, reveal the origin story of this trailblazing publication — how it defied the odds, transformed its readers, and continually fought to uphold its ideals in the face of resistance. The editors tirelessly wrestled with complex issues of sexuality, identity, and representation inside and outside the Ms. office and on the pages of the magazine, bravely grappling with backlash and learning and growing along the way. The film captures a time of revolution, resilience, and the fight for equality which still resonates.

Dear Ms.: A Revolution in Print features three segemtns directed by three filmmakers: Cecilia Aldarondo (director of Memories of a Penitent Heart, Landfall, You Were My First Boyfriend), Alice Gu (director of The Donut King, Really Good Rejects), Salima Koroma (director of Bad Rap, Dreamland: The Burning of Black Wall Street, Glitch: The Rise & Fall of HQ Trivia). Produced by William Ventura. Made by McGee Media Production for HBO. Executive produced by Dyllan McGee, Amy Richards, Cindi Leive, and Regina K. Scully; co-produced by Maya Tanaka, Katherine Montgomery, and Ines Hofmann Kanna. HBO debuts Dear Ms.: A Revolution in Print streaming on HBO Max starting July 2nd, 2025 this summer. Want to watch?
