Enthralling Trailer for ‘Boys Go to Jupiter’ Film with Unique Animation

“Is this really how you want to spend your whole life, just bumming around forever?” Whoa this looks fun. Cartuna has revealed the trailer for an indie animated film called Boys Go to Jupiter, the first feature by animator / 3D artist Julian Glander. This first premiered at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival last year, and played at many other festivals including Nashville and Denver. A teenager in suburban Florida desperately hustles to make $5,000 in this dreamy and surreal animated flick. Billy is forced to make hard choices about love, friendship, and how far he’ll go for financial security in a world ruled by capitalism in this absurdist, musical take on a coming-of-age comedy. With the voices of Jack Corbett, Tavi Gevinson, Elsie Fisher, Janeane Garofalo, Julio Torres, Max Wittert, & Demi Adejuyigbe. Inspired by Google Street View excursions through the streets of Tampa, Florida, the nostalgia of youth and growing up in the suburbs, and an eagerness to examine the capitalism & techno-feudalism in modern society, Boys Go to Jupiter was self-produced & animated entirely over 90 days using Blender (same as Flow). I’m so fascinated by this! It looks creative and unique and wildly entertaining in quirky, strange ways. Gotta check it out when it opens soon.

It’s the day after Christmas in suburban Florida and Billy 5000 and his friends pass the seemingly endless days by slacking, shoplifting, and beatboxing. In between lounging on the beach and sneaking into pools, Billy spends his time hustling on the food-on-demand app Grubster, desperate to make $5,000 before New Year’s Eve. As he darts around the city delivering to oddball characters, a stop at the mysterious Dolphin Groves Juice Company leads to a run-in with his former classmate—and crush—Rozebud and a surprise backpack stowaway in Donut, a bizarre creature from another world. Dr. Dolphin, the powerful orange juice CEO, will do anything to get Donut back. Billy is forced to make hard choices about love, friendship, and how far he’ll go for financial security in a world ruled by capitalism in this absurdist, musical take on a coming-of-age comedy.
