Superman IMAX Featurette

“Seeing Superman fly – we want as much frame as you possibly can.” IMAX has unveiled a final featurette for James Gunn’s Superman movie – his fresh, modern take on the iconic “Last Son of Krypton” from DC Comics. Opening in theaters worldwide THIS week. Written & directed by Gunn, actor David Corenswet (from “We Own This City”, “Lady in the Lake”, Twisters) stars as Clark Kent / Superman this time around. The superb ensemble cast includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, plus Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Sara Sampaio, María Gabriela de Faría, Wendell Pierce, Alan Tudyk, Pruitt Taylor Vince, and Neva Howell. The movie was not shot using IMAX cameras at all, but they are still labeling it as “Filmed for IMAX” in all the marketing. Which mainly means during post-production it was prepared for IMAX release and it has been setup for an additional IMAX ratio like many other movies this year – more frame, the better. A few making of glimpses in this, but it’s mostly just hype for the big release.

The superhero film explores Clark Kent / Superman’s (starring David Corenswet) journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his adoptive human family in Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way in a world that views this as old-fashioned. Superman, formerly known as Superman: Legacy, is directed by acclaimed American writer / filmmaker James Gunn, who now runs DC Studios and directed the movies Slither, Super, Guardians of the Galaxy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, DC’s The Suicide Squad previously, plus this year’s Creature Commandos series; he also wrote the screenplay for Zack Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead film and Greg McLean’s The Belko Experiment. The screenplay is also by James Gunn; based on characters from DC Comics created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster. Produced by Peter Safran and James Gunn for DC Studios. Warner Bros opens Gunn’s Superman movie in theaters worldwide on July 11th, 2025 this summer. Still looking good? Who’s ready?
