Kannappa Faces Backlash Online
The uproar began when a brief video circulated showing Vishnu Manchu’s character performing a sequence that several netizens felt was in poor taste, especially for a film rooted in a revered mythological tale. Comments flooded social media questioning the filmmakers’ decision-making, with many users asking how such a scene made it past the censors without objection.
As reported by multiple entertainment portals, some users wrote, “This is supposed to be a film about devotion, but what is this cheapness?” while another comment read, “Disgusting! Totally uncalled for in a movie like Kannappa.”
At the time of writing, the makers of Kannappa have not issued any official statement addressing the backlash. Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh, the big-budget film has generated significant pre-release buzz due to its ambitious scale and star-studded cameos, including actors like Prabhas and Mohanlal. However, the emerging controversy threatens to overshadow the hype if left unaddressed.
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has also not commented on the viral clip or the complaints, further fueling speculation online about whether the scene was passed without cuts or edits.
