Long before cameras started rolling on Metro In Dino, the much-anticipated sequel to Life In A… Metro, it was the late Irrfan Khan who planted the idea in director Anurag Basu’s mind. As Basu recently revealed, the beloved actor was the one who first suggested a follow-up to their hit 2007 film, making the new chapter a poignant tribute to Irrfan’s legacy.
Metro In Dino’s Emotional Origins Linked to Irrfan Khan, Reveals Anurag Basu
Before Metro In Dino became a reality, it was the late Irrfan Khan who first inspired director Anurag Basu to think about continuing the story of Life In A… Metro. In a recent interview with News18, Basu revealed, “Post Jagga Jasoos, Irrfan and I were talking about a sequel to Life In A Metro. He, in fact, had given me the idea to start working on it.’ He told me about it much later, not immediately after the first film.”
This heartfelt revelation adds a new layer of significance to Metro In Dino, connecting the sequel directly to Irrfan’s creative vision and underlining his lasting impact on the film’s journey.
Konkona Sen Sharma Opens Up About Missing Irrfan
Konkona Sen Sharma, who stars in both Life In A… Metro and Metro In Dino, has often spoken about how much she misses working with Irrfan. Their memorable chemistry as Shruti and Monty in the 2007 original won hearts, and Konkona has acknowledged that stepping into the sequel without him has been emotional. In her words:
“I really miss Irrfan. He was such an incredible co-actor, and I feel so fortunate to have worked with him. He brought so much honesty and depth to every scene.”
No Plans for Metro 3, Confirms Basu
Addressing speculation about extending the series into a trilogy, Basu clarified that there are no current plans for a third part or turning Metro into a long-running franchise. While Metro In Dino explores new stories set in an urban landscape, the director emphasized that the film is not meant to launch a franchise but to tell standalone stories about modern relationships.
