It’s been nearly 25 years since Hera Pheri charmed audiences with its humor, with Paresh Rawal’s iconic portrayal of Baburao matching the energy of Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty’s characters. As fans eagerly await the third installment, news of a legal dispute between the superstar duo emerged—threatening to stall the much-anticipated reunion.
Paresh Rawal’s Exit and Akshay’s Legal Notice
In mid‑May, Paresh Rawal unexpectedly exited Hera Pheri 3, prompting Akshay Kumar’s Cape of Good Films to serve a legal notice seeking ₹25 crore in damages for alleged “unprofessional conduct”, claiming Rawal quit after signing and initial shooting had taken place.
Rawal responded through Twitter and legal channels, clarifying his decision was “not due to creative differences” and reaffirming his “immense love, respect, and faith in Mr. Priyadarshan the film director”.
He also returned the ₹11 lakh signing amount along with accrued interest and additional compensation, citing irregularities in the project setup, including no formal screenplay, no long-form agreement, and general disorganisation.
Paresh’s lawyer Ameet Naik said, “They did not deliver the story, screenplay or a draft of a long form agreement which was fundamental to the engagement of our client” , while Akshay’s legal team warned of “severe legal consequences,” citing incurred costs from cast, crew, logistics, and promotional efforts.
All Resolved? Paresh Rawal Confirms No Controversy
In a recent interview, Rawal struck a reassuring tone: “There’s no controversy. What happens is, when something becomes so loved by people, we need to be extra careful. It’s our responsibility towards the audience to work hard and give them back. So my point here is let everyone come together, work hard, and that’s it. But nothing else has happened. It’s all resolved now.”
He also assured that the film is on track: “100 percent the film is coming. It was about to come earlier also but sometimes we’ve to fine tune each other because all of them are creative people – like Priyadarshan, Akshay, Suniel Shetty, they’ve been friends for many, many years.”
The reconciliation marks a promising turn: the returning Baburao of Rawal, paired with Kumar and Shetty under Priyadarshan’s helm, seems destined to deliver a worthy addition to the cult classic series.
