Practical People Win’ Hulu Trailer

“All the kids in this generation believe that they can follow their bliss,” Zarna Garg says in the trailer for her new Hulu special — before turning heel as always: “No! You will monetize your misery!”

In “Practical People Win,” Garg is doing just that; maybe not with misery exactly, but mining her life for cheeky cultural observations and punchlines as always. The one minute trailer for her special pokes fun at her son, husband, and mother-in-law — which any Zarna fan knows is par for the course. As Hulu’s press release put it, she’s “taking aim at husbands, kids, in-laws, and anyone who dares question an Indian mom’s wisdom.”

Garg rose to fame during the early days of COVID-19 lockdown, when she was starting out as a standup comedian and her eldest son began posting clips of it to social media. The clips went viral, and so did she — now at one million followers and counting on both Instagram and TikTok. She regularly tours with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, and has been a guest on both “Late Night with Seth Meyers” and “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”

“Practical People Win” is Garg’s second taped special, after 2023’s “One in a Billion” on Prime Video. She recently made her acting debut alongside Jonathan Groff and Karan Soni in Roshan Sethi’s “A Nice Indian Boy,” (now available on VOD), which premiered a few weeks before her first memoir, “This American Woman,” published through Ballantine Books. Fans of “The Zarna Garg Family Podcast” will also spot the comedian’s husband and three children in the “Practical People Win” trailer, where they joyfully perform on stage with a group of professional dancers.

The special is directed by Jeff Tomsic and produced by Rotten Science, with Tomsic and Garg serving as executive producers. Matthew Vaughan (Rotten Science) and Olivia Gerke & Adam Triplett (3Arts) also executive produce. It joins Hulu’s growing library of original standup specials under the “Hularious” banner, including “Atsuko Okatsuka: Father,” “lana Glazer: Human Magic,” “Roy Wood Jr.: Lonely Flowers,” and more.

“Zarna Garg: Practical People Win” premieres July 18 on Hulu. Watch the full trailer below.
