The untimely death of television and reality show star Shefali Jariwala has sent shockwaves across the entertainment industry. However, the tragedy has also reignited an old debate about the ethics of media coverage during moments of personal grief. Earlier as Shefali’s husband, actor Parag Tyagi, arrived at Mumbai’s Cooper Hospital to complete formalities, a swarm of paparazzi gathered outside, recording every moment of his anguish.
Visibly distraught, Parag folded his hands and pleaded with the photographers and videographers to stop filming. “Please, mat karo,” he requested, urging them to respect his privacy during an intensely vulnerable time. Despite his appeals, videos of his emotional breakdown quickly surfaced online, sparking outrage among fans and industry colleagues.
Varun Dhawan Urges Media to Show Humanity
Actor Varun Dhawan is now among the first prominent celebrities to publicly condemn the media’s actions. Expressing his frustration on social media, he wrote, “Again, one more passing of a soul being insensitively covered by the media. I just don’t understand—why do you have to cover someone’s grief? Everyone looks so uncomfortable with this. How is this benefitting anyone?”

Varun concluded his statement with a heartfelt plea directed at the press: “My request to my friends in the media—this isn’t the way someone would want their final journey covered.” His remarks resonated widely with fans and fellow actors, many of whom shared his post and echoed his sentiments about maintaining dignity and compassion during such moments.
Industry Calls for Reflection on Paparazzi Culture
The incident has sparked a broader conversation on social media about the boundaries of entertainment journalism and the human cost of constant surveillance. Several actors and public figures have highlighted the need for sensitivity when covering funerals and hospital visits, urging publications and paparazzi agencies to reassess their practices.
While the media’s pursuit of timely updates is understandable, the industry and audiences alike are questioning whether the price of such coverage should be a grieving family’s peace. Varun’s stand has reignited hopes for more responsible reporting standards in the future.
